Remember a year ago? There was some serious deja vu for me as Thomas and I boarded a plane to head to Washington earlier this month. Headed back to the west coast! We were super excited for this trip – not only was it Thomas’ first business trip, but it just happened to be to Spokane, the hometown of some dear friends of ours. The first part of the trip he had meetings while I hung out with friends and then on the weekend we were all together to explore and catch up.
One of my weekday explorations was to Manito Park. It was a great place to pull out my camera and enjoy some outdoor time. There were several different gardens within the park, all with a different theme. The picture above is from…wait for it…the Rose Garden!
My other favorite spot in the park was the Japanese Garden. Fall was the perfect season to visit since all the maples were glowing in their full autumnal glory.
Of course the scenery was great, but the best part of the trip was catching up with this gem, Jasmine. It is such a blessing to have a friend, mentor, sister in Christ, and fellow wife and mom all rolled into one.
After hiking around the park all morning, we stopped for some delicious lunch at David’s Pizza.
A few days later, my man was finally free from work commitments and where do you think was our first sightseeing stop? (After a mind blowing breakfast at Frank’s Diner, complete with a Seafood Creole Omelet and Blueberry Muffin French Toast!) Yup, coffee. 🙂 Thomas had already been checking out some local coffee shops throughout the week before work, but we were able to enjoy Vessel Coffee Roasters together where they had a great selection of beans for sale and the best drip brewed coffee I’ve ever had.
On Saturday, with the whole gang together, we took a trek up Mount Spokane. It was a perfect, cool fall day and the scenery was awesome.
Bonus: it was a great chance to test out baby carriers!
This little woodpecker friend was fearless and provided some great up-close entertainment.
We didn’t even have to hike up a mountain to get great views – this was taken at the end of our friends’ street! On Sunday, with everyone dressed their best, we went down to the end of the street and grabbed some family photos.
Don’t be surprised if something like this shows up in a Christmas card…
Of course the kids wanted to get in on the action too and I love the photos that came from their hands too. 🙂

This trip to Spokane is probably the closest thing we will get to a “babymoon” and I couldn’t have asked for a better vacation. We both LOVE exploring a new place and deeply cherish time with dear friends. Plus, new food spots 🙂 (No pictures, but we also loved the ice cream at Brain Freeze Creamery and the Italian dinner at Tomato Street!!) Little did I know when we boarded the plane for Washington that I would be back on the west coast less than a week later…but that is another story for another post. 😉
Do you have any favorite spots in Spokane that we should try on our next visit? Where is your favorite place to travel in the fall?
