Why do people say that the key to a MAN’S heart is his stomach? As if girls don’t care about food?
Thankfully, my hero husband is very aware of my appreciation for good eats and surprised me with breakfast for Valentine’s Day! Have you ever had Swedish Puff Coffee Cake? We found this recipe a few years ago and it was an instant hit for both of us. Big surprise – have you read the ingredient list?? Almond, check. Coconut, check. Yeah, we’re gonna love this.
I don’t have any pictures of the baking process because I was SLEEPING!! 🙂 But since I have made it before, my one tip is: just follow the instructions, no matter how weird they are or how strange your dough looks at the moment. I promise it will all turn out ok. And yes, you’re basically making dough to put on top of your crust. At least you won’t have to worry about a carb deficiency!
My husband is so creative, but doesn’t get a chance to express it very often. I never would have thought to dye the shredded coconut and arrange it into a heart. Ever. But isn’t it the cutest thing? (in my best Sally voice)
Even more props to the hubster for taking these pictures himself! We recently realized that if he didn’t learn to use at least the basic functions of my new fancy camera, I would never show up in any of our family pictures. It is hard for me to hand over the camera sometimes, but I’m sure that when I’m 80, I’ll be so glad to have pictures of my younger self…right?
Now you’re wondering, “So where are the close-up pictures of the pastry all sliced up? What does the inside look like?” Sorry, that is between me and my stomach. At least that tells you how good the recipe is, right? Lip-licking tasty, I assure you!
What is your favorite way to celebrate Valentine’s Day?
